The city problem

Cities are complex systems, as such and to be visually convincing they need two attributes :

  1. a lot of urban elements. (around 100k for a video game)
  2. very detailed urban elements

On the first hand, the number of elements imply a team dedicated to place each of them in the virtual word (be it a video game or the FX CGI framework). it's a kind of glorified maquettism but not really a important core skill for a content creator.

On the second hand, the detail level of each urban object implies another team dedicated to create all those. Sadly most of them are variation of each other, the building particularly. So, beyond the first set of items, the variation job is not very creative and just long.

These two facts makes city creation a complex item that must be managed with care. Any of the two could imply delay in the project and therefore a higher global cost.
